Last year, Scott Moody and Wendy Warcholik showed that New Mexico’s government bureaucracy is too large and overpaid. Unfortunately, as the two authors find in their new study, “The Government ‘Gravy Train’: An Analysis of New Mexico’s Private versus Public Sector Employment and Compensation (Updated)” the problem has gotten worse since last year as government employment has continued to grow despite a shrinking private sector.
