Like the State, New Mexico’s big cities have elevated unemployment rates

The Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks unemployment rates for certain cities across the nation. With the outbreak of COVID 19 in March, unemployment rates across the nation (and the Southwest region) spiked.

Four New Mexico cities are included in the report (Farmington, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe). We included a few major cities Phoenix, Denver, and Salt Lake City) in neighboring states by way of comparison. Each of those cities have far lower rates than any of the New Mexico cities studied.

The latest information available is for July.
