Charitable Bequests

A bequest gift can be a way to support the Rio Grande Foundation for years to come, ensuring support for the values you hold dear.

Charitable bequests are flexible and easy to update. You can write one into your will or trust with a short paragraph, and if circumstances change you can revoke it just as easily. Bequests can also help reduce your tax burden.  There’s an unlimited deduction of charitable bequests against the value of an estate, making it a powerful tool for reducing estate taxes.

The following example language is intended to help you and/or your attorney in drafting a bequest that satisfies your individual interests:

  • I give, devise, and bequeath to the Rio Grande Foundation Inc., EIN 85-0468446, located in Albuquerque, NM [insert dollar amount, percentage of estate, or property] to be used for its general purposes.

OR

  • I give, devise, and bequeath to the Rio Grande Foundation Inc., EIN 85-0468446, located in Albuquerque, NM [insert dollar amount, percentage of estate, or property] to be used for [insert specific program].

Most donors choose to leave their gifts to the Rio Grande Foundation without restriction.  This helps the Rio Grande Foundation use funds where they are needed most to help us fulfill our mission.  Donors who wish to restrict their gifts towards specific purposes will have their wishes honored; please contact us at 505-264-6090 or development@riograndefoundation.org to discuss restricted gifts in advance to ensure your wishes are properly understood.
